Iceland Christmas 2018 adverts banned

The yearly Christmas advert from Iceland will be quite invisible, as the TV advert has been banned by advertising regulators.

Iceland has revealed that its TV advert might have been to political because it was banned by Iceland‘s advertising standards of being too political.
Also, the advert has nothing to do with Christmas, but judge for yourself.

In the advert we see a little girl and an orangutang talking in the little girl’s room. During the talk, we get sympathy for the orangutang and it has an undertone of a political statement.

The political speech in the advert is not about violence or drugs but about losing rainforests.

The advert message is, that every day about 25 orangutans dies every day because of the Rainforest destruction. The Rainforest in South East Asia are the affected areas when it comes to cutting down palm trees.
Government data shows that over 50,000 orangutans have died as a result of deforestation of Palm trees. And this killing has been done during the last two decades.

Palm oil is mostly used in food and cosmetics, like skin care products.
These Palm trees are originally from Africa (West Africa) but were brought to South-East Asia about 100 years ago.
It was originally the British Industrial Revolution that started the huge demand for Palm oil. At that time the export of Palm oil from Asia was 250,000 tonnes of Palm oil every year.
If you think that export number is huge, then guess what the export number of Palm oil is today?
WRONG…
The Export of Palm oil from South East Asia has risen to over 60,000,000 tonnes today.

It is the demand for cheap oil, that is the main reason for the fall of the Rainforest in Asia.

Iceland announced earlier this year that palm oil would be removed from its own label food this year. If this is going to be succeeded, we dont know yet.
