Retinoids (such as Tretinoin and Retin-A)

Very potent Vitamin A derivatives and only available by prescription. Only used for severe cases of acne and sun damaged skin. This Vitamin A derivative can cause extreme intense dryness and skin sensitivity.

Retinyl Palmitate

This Vitamin A derivative is a combination of Retinol and Palmitic Acid. This Vitamin A takes a longer time to convert into Retinoic Acid. Instead, it is much more gentle to the skin and does not cause redness, irritation or dryness to your skin.
It sounds almost too good to be true – and it is. Retinyl Palmitate is less effective as other Vitamin A derivative, but a perfect choice, for people with very sensitive skin.

Retinol

Probably the most well-known Vitamin A derivative. Retinol is relatively pure and is often added to creams and serums in different concentrations. Retinol can be blended in low concentrations for sensitive skin or in higher concentration for an insensitive skin.
The Retinol conversion process into Retinoic Acid is quite fast, which make the skin regenerate fast.
Furthermore, Retinol is very good for sensitive and problematic skins plus Retinol is safe to use on a long-term basis.
While talking about skin care, retinol might reduce the incidence of first new squamous cell skin cancers (incidence of first new squamous cell skin cancers1).

Retinaldehyde and Retinal

This Vitamin A derivative is not like other Vitamin A’s. Retinal contradicts some of the Vitamin A rules and make it intensive and effective. Retinal penetrates quickly and convert into Retinoic Acid quit fast but doesn’t cause the side effects like other Vitamin A derivative. A concentration between 0.05% to 0.1% will give the best effect and result in your skincare products.
